Alpha Sigma Lambda’s purpose is to recognize the achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing the competing interests of home and work. Alpha Sigma Lambda is the premier National Honor Society created exclusively for non-traditional, degree-seeking undergraduate students.

Students must meet the following criteria:

1. Active undergraduate status in a degree seeking program
2. 24 credits of completed ERAU coursework
3. Minimum 3.70 cumulative grade point average
4. Submitted membership application with $50 fee

Our coaching program follows a life or performance coaching model designed to help achieve breakthrough performance. Students come to their coaching sessions with an agenda: a problem, opportunity, or dream that they want to make progress on achieving.

Our faculty coaches have gone through extensive training and achieved certification as professional coaches. They listen and guide the student with targeted questions to elicit deep understanding and insight into the student's agenda. The student leaves with a crystal clear idea of what to do next to move forward towards their goal.

In addition to meeting their personal goals, students gain insight into the use of coaching as a performance excellence tool. Thus, taking part in this program helps students understand how to use coaching to help with their careers and how to use coaching to develop higher performance within their organizations.

The Order of the Sword and Shield is the first academic and professional honor society dedicated exclusively to homeland security, intelligence, emergency management and all protective security disciplines. The mission of O.S.S. shall be to promote critical thinking, high scholarship and professional development; to further enhance the ethical standards of the protective security professions; and to cultivate a high order of personal living.

The Core Values of the Society are excellence, knowledge, ethics and peace.
Our motto is ex scientia pax, which means "out of knowledge comes peace." As an association that represents homeland security, intelligence and protective security academic disciplines, this has special meaning. Criteria for Membership:

- Undergraduate Students: Must have completed at least 50% of their program with a minimum GPA of 3.25.​
- Graduate Students: Must have completed at least 50% of their program with a minimum GPA of 3.5.​
- Professionals: Must have at least five years of experience in a related field and provide a letter of recommendation and a resume. ​

Required Materials for New Member Initiation: Applicants are typically required to submit:

- A completed application form.​
- An unofficial transcript.​
- A letter of recommendation.​ (they would simply put " Alexander Siedschlag /reference letter waiver" under "name of first reference.")
- A one-time membership fee of $75. ​
